All the courses listed below are suitable for in house training for a maximum of 15 people. This can make training in house very cost effective if most/all the places are filled. Consider whether neighbouring practices would also like to join you and send their staff along. We can help with sending a flyer for distribution outlining all the information to assist you in this.
The cost for a full days training is £850 and for half a day training £445. VAT is not applicable.

Medical Terminology Course – 1 Day

Aimed at:

More than ever before, the necessity for this training is apparent. This 1-day course is designed for receptionists, secretaries, HCAs and administrative staff working in Practice. It provides an understanding of medical terminology and its relevance to work flow optimization, summarizing, reports, coding, referrals, audits etc. A variety of learning methods are used in this interactive course including individual exercises, consultant letters, games, quizzes and group work.

Chaperoning in General Practice

Aimed at:

Health Care Assistants and administrative staff, who may be required to chaperone. This half day course has been developed in light of the Ayling report and the subsequent recommendations. It includes a workbook containing practical competencies to enable the delegate to be assessed at the practice to complete the programme.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the session delegates will gain an understanding of:

  • The background and context on the use of chaperones
  • What a chaperone should/should not do – acting professionally
  • Minimising risk
  • Confidentiality/Caldicott/Data Protection Act/Consent
  • The importance of having a Chaperone Protocol
  • Different patient groups e.g. learning disability/mental illness/ethnicity and other cultural considerations

Advanced Medical Terminology Course

Aimed at:

Health care assistants, secretaries, data input clerks, receptionists, administrative and dispensing staff who work in general practice who have already completed modules 1 and 2 medical terminology course.

Topics will include the lymphatic and nervous systems, circulation and blood, clinical imaging, notifiable infectious diseases, the eyes and skin, common tests.

Successful Supervision Of Teams

Aimed at:

Staff working in General Practice, Patient Services Managers, Senior Receptionists, Dispensary Managers, Office Managers and Administrators. This two-day programme is designed to develop the role of the supervisor who has responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the reception and/or dispensary. Its focus is on developing and equipping the delegate with good team working skills and improving their own performance at work.

The course includes case studies, individual and group exercises, SWOT analysis and gap analysis.
